(no subject)

Most of you know that I had to drop a class. It was awful.  Here's what's going on.  I copied a post from my tumblr to make sure details weren't missed.

Here are the details. )

Odd Rememberances.

Today would have been my best friend's 26th birthday. Missa was the tomboy's tomboy.  Despite having beautiful long hair, (down past her waist, and if she braided it, it was thicker than I could put my tiny hand around.) and curves any woman I know would die for, she spent most of her time reading books, and was in the process of becoming the best firefighter our city would ever have had. On top of that, she taught me everything I ever could have wanted to know about Scottish history, and tartans, and plaids, and made me love puppies even though I was allergic.

So, what did I do to remember this marvelous woman on her birthday? I bought a plaid bra. It's beautiful. She would have rolled her eyes and given me a thumbs up.

Beware the Ides of March!

I've never really needed to beware the ides of March before. It's my mom's birthday, and the worst I've really had to deal with was birthday plans that either didn't involve me or were not what I wanted to do that day. Hah.

That is, until this year. )

So yeah.  That's the story of the apartment flood of '10.  Apologies if it gets rambly, it's after 1am and I'm incredibly tired. Now, I'm really hoping that April 18th goes by without something massively bad happening.  But for me, it's time to curl up and sleep, and stop worrying about the theoretical future..  Tomorrow, I pack.

I <3 my TAs...

...even when the homework makes me cry.  Here's an excerpt from a forum post:

Here's an example. You've decided that A* doesn't work well on maps that have rectangles in them because the g term of A* has rectanglephobia stemming from childhood abuse by a rectangle. So here's what you do - you draw a map that has a big rectangle in one corner and color in all the squares A* explores before finding the solution. Next to it is the same map with all the squares greedy best first searched. Under it you write "A* found the lowest cost path but searched 30% of the map to find it. GBFS found a path almost as good but searched only 1% of the map. This is because in GBFS, f(n)=h(n) while in A*, f(n)=g(n) + h(n) and the g(n) term causes it to explore more of the map due to childhood trauma and a deep-seated fear of clowns, escalators and rectangles"

Achiement Aquired: Netbook.

So, with help from Mark, I managed to get a netbook.  It's an Asus:  Here's a link so you can see it at Best Buy.  For those of you who don't want to clicky (or can't right now), it's midnight blue (that means more than just color. It's almost velvety, and sparkly.), has a 6-cell L-I battery, and a 10.1" screen.  There's a lot more to it than that. It's awesome. I am all happy-dancey-squee over it. But I thought I'd let y'all know.

Netbooks

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have decided that I need to get a netbook so that I can code at school.  I will be doing this in the near future.  I'm looking for recommendations and reviews -- what you like, what you think I should get, what I should avoid at all costs.  The sooner I get the info the better, I'd hate to make an uninformed choice, but I'd also like to be able to use the million hours I have in dead time on campus.

Thoughts on this semester

So far, all I can say about it is massive upheaval.

Behind the Cut: Better Explanation. )

But still, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the semester.

Updates on Spring Schedule

Well, I'm confirmed able to take everything but 4011. *sigh* Still working with that prof on it.  I should be able to take it, it's just his first time teaching it and he doesn't want to tell me I'll be okay and then have me fail. I guess I can understand.

More news as I have it.

Spring Schedule Thoughts

So, lots of craziness.

As of a week ago, there was a sum total of one class (4 credits) that I could take.

After discussion with my current programming professor and some going crazy, I have a potential schedule that is only waiting for the response of one professor.

If I get the instructor permissions I need, my next semester classload will look like this:

1902 - Structures of Programming 2
2021 - Machine Architecture and Organization (Taught by the Programming 1 Prof)
4011 - Formal Language and Automata Theory (Awaiting Instructor Approval)
4511 - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

It'll be weird times, because 1902 is only offered 4pm-5:15pm (and I HAVE to take it this semester) but I'll survive.

Whee!
